don’t panic. it won’t do you any good at this time. like me you may have a bunch of names for games and other goodies that aren’t still checked off, if you can’t move from your keyboard, they won’t be ticked off it you can only wrap a shipping voucher. but even easier is to get it all local, just pretend that you parked at the outskirts of the mall lot and walk, or sleigh your way in. if parking meters aren’t free today, tell them Santa said so !
I already got one of my wishes this year when a dance floor bigger than my bedroom opened up downtown. Unlike the pizzeria of childhood, Porta is offering more than a single DonkeyKong game for fun and a couple of local DJ’s have already taken it for a spin. Tonight DJ Geo Rge Soul brings the Soul Kitchen party at 10 pm, which is fitting since it will be right by the ovens, On January 10th, I’ll be debuting a monthly party Last Saturday Night, which may not always be on the last saturday night of the month, but will definitely spin you through my early rollerskating days in the 80’s to my current moped days. Grease your wheels. Until then, I’m getting my last DJ night in on New Year’s Eve at Union Republic. Tonight at 10 I’ll be watching the Union Republic doors for a Brazy and the Crains listening party. Those Magical musical elves Marco “Vidall Sasson & J Tower” are at Lucky’s as a special gift you can also un-rap them on X-Mas night at Lucky’s. Dave Feldman spins the light the last Chanukah the night before [you do the Math: it’s X minus 1].
Tonight at WFMU’s Monty Hall : Pat Byrne who looks like he will be taking over the duties from Stephen Colbert, presents Prove It All Night with Dave Hill, Aparna Nancherla, Seth Herzog, DJ Jeff Marino starts things off with a DJ set at 9 pm. Live Music by ShellShag. $5 and BYOB ok. You don’t have to bring your transmitters, because WFMU will be broadcasting in real time.
On Sunday, I’m out all day for a Champagne Jam at Webster Hall. The Front Bottoms headline a packed line-up. It’s Sold Out, here’s the stub hub link , or try me if you know how to cater. At 1 pm Nimbus Dance works hosts their final performance of the Nutcracker. The show also runs today at 5 pm. Drawing on Nimbus Dance Works’ strong local ties and the company’s mission to integrate top-caliber dance directly into the community, Nimbus’ Jersey City Nutcracker utilizes a cast comprised of top professional dancers as well as members of the community, including youth from Nimbus’ programs in Newark and in the Jersey City Public Schools, as it is performed each year in Jersey City and Newark. First selections were performed in 2010, and the complete production will be unveiled over a period of three years. Jersey City Nutcracker has been created by a collaborative team including Samuel Pott (choreographer, Artistic Director, Nimbus Dance Works), Alysia Souder (librettist/playwright), Irene Borngraeber (scenic designer), and Jennifer Bentley (costume designer). Though containing elements of the original E.T.A Hoffman folktale and set to Tchaikovsky’s renowned orchestral score, Nimbus’ Jersey City Nutcracker presents an adapted narrative set in a contemporary urban environment.
On Monday Dec 29th I’m hosting Play Local | Rock Global at Liberty Science Center. It’s part of the current exhibit The Guitar: The Instrument that Rocked the World.
