Now for this weekend of potential. Clean Shavers and Crisp Haircutter Virile Barber Shop celebrates their one year anniversary this Saturday at LITM. I’ll be tapering songs that night and event sponsors have a bunch of good bags. Later in the evening, you can enjoy a black celebration at Lucky 7’s with Spring is in the Lair : an Equinox of Goth. DJ’s Ames Deluxe and George Goth [usually Soul] spin. On the live side, you can check out Life Eaters, Black Wail and Battery Electric at Moonlight Mile Recording , Moonlight Mile has recorded many great local bands and occupies a famous JC Address 58 Coles Street, before migrating from their old home, now condos in Hoboken. In the front Gallery, check out the Frogs Are Green exhibit by young future minded citizen artists. Not to be Out Funned, The Laugh Tour chuckles into town at Art House Productions on Saturday Night at 7:30 pm with Headliner, KEVIN MEANEY [The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, Letterman, HBO, Regis, Oprah, Conan O’Brien.]
This weekend also rounds out the end of freeformed radio WFMU’s fundraising marathon. Besides broadcasting all the music your never hear on commercial radio, WFMU joined the JC venue ranks with the recent opening of Monty Hall [programming note Jon Spenser Blues Explosion plays March 25th] . for the last two weeks they have been throwing their cautionary playlists to the wall and offering great prizes for those who pledge their support and wallets to keep Taylor Swift at the Garden. This Saturday, Prove it All Night Host Pat Byrne hosts his big fundraising push, with Joe Jack Talcum, Singer and songwriter of The Dead Milkmen, will be writing CUSTOM songs for pledges of $100 or more! Tune in 9 pm to midnight. Things will wrap up on Sunday Night with WFMU’s Hoof and Mouth Synfonia at the marathon finish line, when WFMU DJ’s jumping more sharks the Fonz, perform their favorite jams, and many times giving airplay to music that is usually stored in a garbage can at the radio station. As for tonight, I’m off to Warsaw, this evening to catch the Australia’s Smith Street Band with Andrew Jackson Jihad. Jersey City’s Friggin Fabulous Productions hosts a night at 6pm at Cafe Vivalde with CKAY & The Professor, Brilliant & Bob-7pm, Sea of Otters with Marc Delgado and Friends-8pm, Twiddlin’ Thumbs-9pm, and The Zuni Mountain Boys-10pm. Erika Flowers plays at Rockwood Music Hall at 8pm. If you stayed home, head to PortA or Porto for some DJing.
