Bakers, Broilers, Steamers, and Creamers,
Long before I moved to Jersey City, I was a member of a not so secret cult in college called the Derelict Garden Tools. We had a Secret handshake, strange wardrobes, late night adventures and gatherings, and of course, ritualistic dancing. During that time most of my meals were based on toast and coffee [I never got into ramen!] but once I year we took things up a notch for a family styled Thanksgiving dinner, in our cultural center simply know as Five Ninety Two or “The House”.
Now 27 years strong, we’ve moved up in the world. Yeah we still have a secret handshake, but the one turkey affairs is now a poultry-plex and a hamtathalon complete with stuffing and sides, and back in the day we were more our own benefactors from this event, and now we are able to help those in need so won’t you please accept this invitation to the 27th Annual Pagan Thanksgiving Feast:
Behold: The Beastly Untamed Spectacle of Pagan Thanksgiving!
What’s that sound? The caterwauling of animals prowling the darkness in search of prey? No! It’s the roar of Pagan Thanksgiving as the crowd howls for more turkey and beer! Packs of friends will gather for this annual ritual on the Monday before Thanksgiving at Fin in downtown Montclair. The place is all ours for the evening: the bar, the kitchen, the works.Bring your appetite: we’ll cook up turkeys, ham, potatoes, stuffing and more! If you can, bring a delicious side dish to share. If you are too busy to prepare something, no problem. Come and have fun and toss us a donation for an important cause. Every year, we pass the hat to benefit the Human Needs Food Pantry, which has enriched the lives of Montclair residents since 1982. Your donation ensures that a hungry person receives nutritious food with dignity.
